Productivity

Dad should be pleased -- I finally took the car in to be serviced today. Oil changed, tires rotated, everything checks out. Interesting note: the sticker on the windshield says I should come in 3 months or 3000 miles from now, the paperwork says 4 months or 4000 miles, and the maintenance guide that came with the car says 6 months or 5000 miles. Since I'm not planning on driving cross-country again within any of those intervals, I'll probably push toward the longer choice, but keep an eye on everything.

I've got a little time on my hands (rare thing), so I've finally started reading a book I got ages ago -- The Essence of Chaos, by Edward N. Lorenz. Hmm ... how many people really read books about chaos for fun?

The "teaching" dreams started a few nights ago. By now I'm used to them; they're just a little bizarre. Not like when I first started teaching -- those were high-anxiety dreams, starting more than a month before school started.

Birthday's coming up, and my driver's license expires. Might as well look into getting a New York State license (finally).

Tomorrow maybe I'll look into getting my taxes done. The question is whether to go the H&R Block route, or wrestle with the internet until I figure out how to handle the fact that I lived 8 months in one state and 4 months in another last year. Maybe I'll try half-and-half -- look on the internet long enough to see how hard it looks, then make a decision.

  1. **taps mic** testing, testing... *seems to work* ;)

Just noticed that you have one of your fractals up as your personal photo. You know, you should put somewhere in your profile that your fractal wallpapers can be found at a **cough** certain site **cough**... j/k. You don't have to if you don't want to. But thanks for having a link up to my site on your main page. I'm currently in the process of redoing it (yes, yes, I know... again!). If you've got any more fractals for me, email them (or upload them yourself if you still remember how) and I'll put them up with this next update. I have a "Puss in Boots" wallpaper that I think you'll like and then I think tonight I'm going to see if I can do an Anakin/Episode III wallpaper

I just mainly wanted to pop in and try this comment thing out. TTFN Big Sis!

  2. Hey there Math Guru!
Do you want some extra time? Or do you just love all those math preps and all that marking?
    Goto www.TheMathWebSite.com.
There is really no need for every math teacher in the world to be reinventing math lessons and tests every day! Let's work together and share all our efforts.

  3. The beauty of my upcoming student teaching assignment is that I'll have a grand total of 30 students -- a big change from the nearly 200 I used to teach. I'm actually looking forward to the opportunity to provide meaningful feedback on each assignment.

The downside is that I'll be teaching 7 classes with no two the same... and at my old school, we thought it was bad if you had three  different preps. Fortunately, I'll be a student teacher, which means everything's pretty much already set up and in place, so I can use what my cooperating teacher already has, working in my own ideas when possible.

There are some interesting problems on your blog. But when I went to your website, none of the category links were active.

  4. Greetings, O Middle One.Thanks for putting my link up. One of these days, when Cari and I get some time, we'll make it our web page and not just my web page.

Mom was saying something about a green fractal that Kerstin was helping her get downloaded? Said it reminded her of St. Patty's day?

Took Cari in to see Dad on Wednesday afternoon. On Tuesday, she was having some bad headaches and had a hard time seeing stuff on her computer screen. Turns out that 1) She suffers from occasional migraine headaches (probably due to stress) and 2) she's slightly farsighted. We go back later (maybe next week) to pick out some frames for reading glasses. We'll send pictures when she gets them.

Thanks for reminding us. Need to take both Car and Truck in for Oil changes and tire rotations. We're going to Vegas for Spring Break to film a conference (Cari's own project) and might have to make a pre-trip trip next weekend to check out the arena. Wanna know more? Check out eagala.org .

  5. Big Bro, the fractal is probably "Palm Leaves". Go to "Little Sister's Site" (Tink-n-Toad), click the link for "Fractal Wallpapers", and it's on the 2nd page. That's the only really green one, so I assume that's it.

"Took Cari in to see Dad on Wednesday afternoon. "

That reminds me ... when I come home to visit again (probably late-May), I'll need to see Dad myself, for two reasons: 1) I'll be on my last pair of contacts and 2) I need new glasses whether my prescription's changed or not. (And knowing me, it has.) A few weeks back, Gus stole my glasses off my nightstand -- thought they (like everything else) would be fun to chew on. I found them in the hall just outside my room. They look fine to the casual observer, but the ends of the ear pieces are clearly gnawed, and he actually managed to gouge one of the lenses (fortunately toward the edge). That scratch-resistant coating really does hold up pretty well, though.

I'm glad someone's having fun for Spring Break. The school for the deaf's Spring Break is at the end of April -- I'll just have two more weeks of student teaching after that, but the 2nd of those weeks includes end-of-year testing. My fun will have to be put off until I come home.

  6. dod (dear old dad) says if your miles are mainly stop and go in the city, choose a/the shorter interval on servicing. Long highway miles cruisin' along at 65mph are not as hard on the vehicle.

  7. I think I still have some tax stuff to send you. I have your make up and sweater I never sent and stuff that keeps coming. Anyway this website is great! Now if I just get more time to play on the computer I can look at it more often. Stake Conference meeting for adults tonight (Saturday) from 5-7. I guess I'm the family rep that's going to go. We started our rehearsal this morning for the Easter Concert on Easter Sunday evening. It's going to be really great! I will try really hard to mail things on Monday. Mom
